Weston Green School is delighted to be part of Take One Picture with The National Gallery again this year.

This year the focal painting is, ‘The Courtyard of a House in Delft 1658’ by Pieter de Hooch. Selected by students and educators nationwide, this masterpiece captivates with its portrayal of identities, relationships, and architectural intricacies.

In the lead up, we’ve been unveiling segments of this year’s captivating painting to our children, igniting their imagination to decide which area to focus on..

Tailored for primary schools, the Take One Picture program is crafted to instill a lifelong passion for both art and learning in our children. This initiative promotes interdisciplinary collaboration across schools, serving as a catalyst for a myriad of subjects and nurturing a deeper appreciation for the chosen artwork.

Our children have been captivated by the painting’s relatability and intrigue, posing philosophical questions such as: ‘Who are the people?’ ‘Do they live within the door?’ ‘What lies beyond the alleyway?’ and ‘Why does the brick bear inscriptions?’

Moreover, this painting serves as a bridge, connecting art with various subjects across the curriculum, including maths, science, literacy, and history.

The culmination of our collective efforts will be showcased at our Curriculum evening on March 19th. We look forward to sharing the diverse interpretations and inventive projects that will emerge from this year’s Take One Picture journey across the school.
