The term has ended with just a few glimpses of sun but some increasing warmth as Spring finally begins! As we reach the end of this Spring Term, we have so much to celebrate and look forward to. This term has demonstrated more than ever the rich and diverse curriculum our children experience each day, full of wonderful learning, exciting opportunities and we are proud that we have achieved all that we set out to and much more. There has been so much to celebrate but I would like to highlight just a few here.
Of particular note must be to celebrate the achievements of our Year 6 cohort in their 11+ entrance exams and who as a group have achieved an incredible set of results. We are incredibly proud of their 40 offers from 16 schools and a total of 13 scholarships, with again, all children gaining a place at a school of their choice. Several of our children received offers from all of their school applications and should be particularly commended.
Following the 11+ process the Headteachers of these schools spoke to me so highly of the entrants from Weston Green, children who present themselves as well rounded, confident individuals able to speak of their personal achievements and interests and who come across as characterful, personable young people. We could not be more proud of them!
Our success at sports this term has also been incredible with teams in Netball and Hockey getting through to the national ISA finals, as well as winning the Bellevue Cup in Hockey, being ranked amongst the top teams in all ISA schools across the countries well as some extremely strong results at regional and national events in cross country.
Given our relatively small school size, the sports coaches develop teams with ambition and commitment, and with a level of skill that enables them to compete at an extremely high level. Hosting the ISA Mixed Hockey regionals at OC’s was also a proud moment for our school. Well done to everyone who has represented our school in the full programme of fixtures and sports events this term.
A particular joy this term was to attend the performances of our Lower Prep children. The production this year was a foot tapping, feel good hour of pure entertainment which cleverly showcased the amazing talent of all our children across Year 1 to Year 3. Our specialist Music and Drama teachers, Ms Griffin and Mrs Carrel worked their creative magic and brought out the children’s confidence and natural abilities, in a production which shone with the children’s enjoyment. It was wonderful to see and we can’t wait to see what this talented bunch do as they progress through into Upper Prep and enjoy the further opportunities for drama, music and performances there too!
I have highlighted just a few, but the term has been full of opportunities for creative and extended enrichment as well as celebration of some stunning achievements. For now we look forward to the Easter break, we hope you enjoy this family time and we look forward to seeing you in the Summer Term.
