Weston Green School Welcomes Local MP Monica Harding for Engaging Discussion with School Council

We were recently delighted to welcome Monica Harding, our local MP, to Weston Green School! Her visit was a fantastic opportunity for our School Council to share their thoughts on a wide range of important societal issues.

School Council Discusses Environmental Pollution, Digital Literacy, and More

Our passionate School Council, made up of students from Years 3 to 6, engaged in meaningful discussions with Monica Harding. They tackled key topics such as environmental pollution and the importance of renewable energy.  They were particularly excited to discuss our recent Green Commute Day, where children are encouraged to cycle, walk, or scoot to school in environmentally friendly ways to reduce pollution and raise awareness about sustainable commuting.

Additionally, the conversation moved to the housing crisis, tax systems, public health, and the importance of equipping schools with the tools for the future—especially in developing digital literacy and key future skills. Reducing crime and violence was also a topic of concern, as well as the perennial school topic: homework!

Monica Harding Praises Weston Green School

Monica Harding was highly impressed with our children’s level of engagement and innovative thinking. She shared her thoughts on Instagram, saying:

“I loved my visit to Weston Green School this week and especially my chat with the School Council. This group of Yrs 3-6 shared with me their ideas on how to change our country – they had some innovative ideas on housing, were very keen on environmental protections, and cared deeply about their local community. Fantastic, engaged bunch, and with the budget coming up we even talked about tax and public services. Great to see our schools encouraging children to use their voices to speak out – we need to hear them.”

Empowering Our Future Leaders

At Weston Green School, we believe in nurturing pupils’ confidence and communication skills, helping them understand how they can use their voices to make a real difference. This session with Monica Harding was an inspiring opportunity for our young leaders to explore how they can contribute to a better tomorrow.
