Sport

Sport is the heartbeat of Weston Green, fostering teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong love of physical activity. From hockey and football to cricket, athletics, and netball, our curriculum is designed to inspire every child to discover their potential, both on and off the field. With a focus on developing gross motor skills in the early years and progressing to technical skills and match play, we ensure that every child builds confidence and competence in a wide range of sports.

How the Subject Makes a Difference at Weston Green

Our sports programme is more than just games—it’s a journey of growth and achievement. From Reception upwards, children participate in swimming once per term, while gymnastics for Lower Prep and yoga across the school help develop flexibility, strength, and mindfulness. Our highly qualified and experienced sports coaches, who are well-known and trusted by the children, deliver motivational and engaging lessons at the fantastic OC rugby club grounds.

Through sports clubs, children have the opportunity to refine and hone their skills, while our Year 6 sports mentors provide invaluable support to younger pupils, fostering leadership and camaraderie. Celebrating success is a key part of our ethos, with sport colours awarded to recognise outstanding achievement and dedication.

How the Subject Stands Out at Weston Green

What sets Weston Green apart is our commitment to creating unforgettable sporting experiences. Our hugely exciting sports days, including the Pre Prep and Reception events and the whole-school extravaganza at the Excel Centre in Walton, are highlights of the year. Beyond the school gates, we punch above our weight in ISA competitions, achieving remarkable success and showcasing the talent and determination of our pupils.  From the early years focus on gross motor skills to the advanced match play and technical skills developed in later years, our sports curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire. Whether it’s through yoga, swimming, or competitive team sports, every child at Weston Green is encouraged to embrace the joy of movement and the spirit of fair play.
