Reception – STEM learning

Posted: 23rd January 2023

Part of our curriculum topic this half term is Land, Sea and Sky where we have been learning about different countries, looking at Google Earth, maps and the globe.

We have also been learning about Winter and have been investigating Polar regions of the world, including the animals that live in both the Arctic and the Antarctic.  As part of this, we have been discussing the melting icebergs and the threat to wildlife in these territories.  Reception class have investigated ice; how water freezes and how ice melts, what causes it to melt the quickest.

In STEM club, the children experimented melting ice using warm water and salt. We linked it to the gritters, gritting the roads in our country and the reason for this.
