Reception children in Opal Class enjoyed an exciting educational visit to Bocketts Farm as part of their ‘On the Farm’ curriculum topic. This hands-on experience provided the perfect opportunity for the children to deepen their understanding of farm life, animal care, and the changing seasons.
Meeting the Animals
The visit began with an introduction to the farm’s many animals. The children loved feeding and stroking the friendly goats and sheep while learning about their diets and how they are looked after. They were particularly delighted to meet the young spring lambs and observe their playful nature. Another highlight was brushing the ponies, which allowed the children to see firsthand how much care and attention farm animals need.
Exciting Activities and Hands On Learning
One of the most thrilling moments of the day was the pig race. The children cheered enthusiastically as the pigs raced around the track, reinforcing their learning about different animals and their behaviours. This was followed by a tractor trailer ride around the farm, giving the children a broader perspective on the landscape, crops, and animals that contribute to farming life.
A Day to Remember
After an action-packed morning, the children enjoyed a picnic together, reflecting on everything they had discovered. The visit to Bocketts Farm was a fantastic way to bring classroom learning to life, helping the children connect with nature and gain a greater appreciation for the role of farms in daily life.
