Weston Green School Parliament.
Our School Parliament is an elected body of representatives from across the school who meet together to discuss and improve the school and the opportunities it provides.
Our pupils are full of ideas and opinions and it is important their school listens to their voice.
Each member is elected by their classmates following their application and a manifesto presented in their class. Members are elected each year and represent each class from Reception to Year 6.
Children can be elected onto one of 4 committees:
School Council
Eco Committee
Harmony Committee
Food Committee
Collectively they are all members of our School Parliament.
The committees meet separately and also hold joint School Parliament meetings. Members of Year 6 take minutes whilst issues and solutions discussed are taken back to class to discuss and agree with their classmates.
Recently our School Parliament helped run a year long initiative “Weston Goes Green” with a focus on green energy initiatives, reducing food waste and recycling clothing.
Recent projects have also included:
- Eco Council monitoring energy usage and energy saving measures across the school
- Planning events for the recent Jubilee and upcoming Coronation
- Creating food growing beds in the grounds
- Creating a Quiet Courtyard using previously unused space within the school, with plants, artwork and beanbags, where pupils can relax during breaktimes
- Organising a movie night, raising £600 towards a mural for the Quiet Courtyard
- Working closely with their peers and the Headteacher to decide on new playground marking designs, funded by the Weston Green School Parents’ Association
- Implementing a new pencil case policy in Upper Prep
Creating a school prayer in conjunction with peers and the Senior Leadership Team of school staff, which is now used regularly by pupils
